For a little inconvenience it's worth attaching some floating apparatus to the rod handle , for example on the very end of the handle just enough to allow it to float if shit like that ever happens. I've seen some super expensive rods hit the water never to be seen again. All it takes is two bucks worth of foam and you'll be able to get it back.
