This is the main reason images or videos are not posted to the internet. It is only illegal in one state, but Congress is going to be voting soon to make it Federal law. Bianca's Law states if you upload and disseminate graphic personal photos or pictures of a crime scene or that's what it should state. Bianca was killed in 2019 by her boyfriend after an argument and her killer took selfies with her after he tried to kill himself. Her mom who is friends with a Congressman was put on display claiming people were sending the pics to her. This story is very unusual because the length that one would have to go thru to do it would take away from any enjoyment the person was trying to get out of it. But it gets even more unusual because it's back in the news flow with her stating that she's still receiving pics 5 years later, which has to be very unlikely. This news story is now pushing for it to become federal law in order to protect federal government officials and law enforcement since it will make it so they decide what is able to be released on the internet.
This is how the government works, they put on a display a heartbreaking tragedy so they can get public to support it. Then they gather together and make it so that it protects them which was the purpose of it the entire time. So now what they have is a way to keep people from videotaping police and government officials when any wrong doing is happening which is the only time it will be enforced. That's where they get you. They are the ones who are in control of enforcing it, just as long as it's on the law books.
Or maybe I'm just being paranoid and unreasonable.

Even if they pass some law it will not stand, most shared images fall under the first amendment, freedom of speech and freedom of the press - which anyone can be. When you post an image in regard to a news story that is journalism covered under the first amendment's freedom of the press.

Theres already a bill that would effectively end Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. If repealed, social media platforms would be likely to over-censor users’ posts or restrict posting altogether, threatening users’ ability to express themselves online.
But government does it in a way so they can't be blamed for doing it. They are just going to make the websites liable for what they allow to be seen. So the websites will take it down or block it in order to not risk a lawsuit.

That reminds me of the patriot act they passed in the early 2000s. Also you should see the laws they tried to pass in NY during covid. A definitely obvious infringement on our basic rights. They didnt pass but if you read them they are totaly bonkers.

Where do you think these internet companies operate from or thru? It's not a tactic. They have been working on it since 2020 and both sides are behind having it removed because it protects them.

Existing carveouts of Section 230 already allow the Department of Justice to prosecute social media companies for mere knowledge of violations even if the associated content originated abroad and never passed through servers in the United States.
U.S. law, therefore block potential violations globally. Foreign governments, especially autocratic regimes, would be emboldened to follow the United States’ lead. European Union is already pushing for the U.S. to enact tighter restrictions.
