It most certainly is (the Sea Wasp variety), alongside the Blue Ringed Octopus.

The stinging mechanisms (nematocysts) are quite brutal when seen close up

Blue Ringed Octopus, super deadly fuckers and are littered around the Australian coast. I saw one diving a few weeks ago, huge cunt; big as my fist. You see the rings, however when they start to glow electric blue, stay away. Means they are pissed off!!
