OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) - A grieving mother is speaking out after troopers shot and killed her son. Charles Carswell's mom says her son stole watermelons from a fruit stand in Arizona, then died in a shootout with troopers in Oklahoma.​

Troopers say they tried to stop the stolen SUV from hurting others on the Turner Turnpike. Investigators say Charles Carswell was behind the wheel of that car.​

His mom Lisa says he ended up here in Oklahoma because he was on a wellness journey. "He is a wonderful son, father, business owner, a master welder and he is dearly missed," said Lisa Carswell. However, his mom says he just stole watermelon.​
