Yeah, there's a possibility that tissue will die and slough off, he might need surgical debridement and ongoing treatment until it either heals, or scars over. That's more harmful than most people think it is. Still, it beats getting burned alive, having your face peeled, etc...

OG Shadow used to talk about the cartels beating dudes with a board, if they fucked up. I really wish he was still online, but the cartels seem to have declared war on all YouTubers and Tik Tokkers, in the past few years. OG Shadow had an episode where he talked about one of the cartel lookouts not doing his job, and dudes getting into a gunfight and getting killed because of it. He said the boss locked that dude in a room, and beat him daily with a fucking board, for 30 days...
