Charlie Kirk got Shot

I’ve been watching the video slowly, and a side shot of the video was provided. I’m not seeing an exit? I’m looking at the fabric in the back and it doesn’t move when he gets shot? Hollow point? I’m not too knowledgeable on guns or ballistics.
Based on his reaction, I’d venture the bullet entered his neck and lodged in his spine.

But that is entirely speculative on my part.

Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organisation Turning Point USA, has been fatally shot at an event at a Utah college.
President Donald Trump ordered flags on government buildings to be lowered to half-mast after Mr Kirk, 31, was killed at the event at Utah Valley University.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Mr Trump said in a post on his Truth Social site. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

Mr Kirk was one of the most influential figures on the right and founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, which was active in over 3,500 college campuses. He hosted a popular podcast and played a prominent role in President Trump’s outreach to young voters during the 2024 election.

He was attending an event at Utah Valley University when he was shot, apparently in the neck. The shooter fired only one shot and remains on the run.

Immediately before the shooting, Mr Kirk was taking questions for an audience member about mass shootings and gun violence.

“Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?” an audience members asked. Mr Kirk responded: “Too many.” The questioner followed up: “Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?”

“Counting or not counting gang violence?” Mr Kirk asked.

Then a single shot rang out.

Videos posted to social media from Utah Valley University show Mr Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent emblazoned with the slogans “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.”

When the shot was fired, Mr Kirk can be seen reaching up with his right hand as a large volume of blood gushes from the left side of his neck. Stunned spectators are heard gasping and screaming before people start to run away.

The event Mr Kirk was speaking at had been met with divided opinions on campus. An online petition calling for university administrators to bar him from appearing received nearly 1,000 signatures.

Dartmouth College President Sian Beilock said a bipartisan student group invited Mr Kirk to that Ivy League campus for a Sept. 25 event.

A former US representative for Utah’s 3rd congressional district, Jason Chaffetz, confirmed there was only one shot.

“As soon as I saw Charlie go back, you realise that it was a shot,” Mr Chaffetz said. “It wasn’t as if there was a whole bunch of gunfire. It was one shot.”

He added: “Utah is one of the safest places on the planet. And so we just don’t have these types of things.”

Sophie Anderson, 45, who was standing 30 metres from the stage, said she knew it was a gunshot as soon as she heard the noise.

“He was shot in the neck and just fell over and he was just a fountain of blood,” she told the Daily Mail.

The university issued a statement last week citing First Amendment rights and affirming its “commitment to free speech, intellectual inquiry, and constructive dialogue.”

Last week, Mr Kirk posted on X images of news clips showing his visit to Utah colleges was sparking controversy. He wrote, “What’s going on in Utah?”

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance had earlier urged people to pray for Mr Kirk, a close ally.

“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social social media platform.

“Praying for my friend Charlie Kirk during this difficult time,” Deputy Attorney-General Todd Blanche said on X. “The Department is actively investigating this senseless act of violence.” FBI agents were headed to the scene, Director Kash Patel said.

Former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz, a Republican who was at the event, said in an interview on Fox News Channel that he heard one shot and saw Mr Kirk go back.

“It seemed like it was a close shot,” Chaffetz said, who seemed shaken as he spoke.

He said there was a light police presence at the event and Mr Kirk had some security but not enough.

Turning Point was founded in suburban Chicago in 2012 by Mr Kirk, then 18, and William Montgomery, a tea party activist, to proselytise on college campuses for low taxes and limited government. It was not an immediate success.

Charlie Kirk was a father of two.
But Mr Kirk’s zeal for confronting liberals in academia eventually won over an influential set of conservative financiers.

Despite early misgivings, Turning Point enthusiastically backed Mr Trump after he clinched the GOP nomination in 2016.

Mr Kirk served as a personal aide to Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, during the general election campaign. Soon, he was a regular presence on cable TV, where he leaned into the culture wars and heaped praise on the then-president. Mr Trump and his son were equally effusive and often spoke at Turning Point conferences.

Utah Valley University is the state’s largest public university. It’s located about 40 miles (64 km) south of Salt Lake City, the state capital, and was founded in 1941 as a vocation school. From those beginnings, its enrolment has jumped five-fold over the past three decades.

The college is not affiliated or owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, known widely as the Mormon church.

The shooting comes amid a spike in political violence in the United States across all parts of the ideological spectrum. The attacks include the assassination of a Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband at their house in June, the firebombing of a Colorado parade to demand Hamas release hostages, and a fire set at the house of Pennsylvania’s governor, who is Jewish, in April. The most notorious of these events is the shooting of President Donald Trump during a campaign rally last year.

Thank fuck. Rot in piss Charlie
You sound unfathomably and single-facetedly stupid.. his point was that the rest of us shouldn’t lose our right to guns because of the crazies.. his point does not diminish because he was shot. Imagine if your way to combat DWI deaths was to make driving OR drinking illegal, instead of focusing on people and behaviors at the individual level.. just stfu, you’re not clever or cute.
