Initially, Fabiana thought that someone in the family had put the furniture back inside the house, which turned out not to be the case. Suspicious of what might have happened, she contacted her husband, Wellington Santos, and asked him to check the security camera footage. (See the video above)
That's when the confirmation came: the sanitation workers had picked up the sofa, believing it was discarded. "He looked at it and said, 'you won't believe what happened, the garbage truck crew put it in the truck and took it away,'" he recalled.
The moment was captured on camera and posted by Wellington on social media. Despite the initial shock, Fabiana said she took the situation in good humor. "At the time it was a huge shock. Afterwards, I laughed a lot. It was very funny," she stated.
She also says that the video quickly went viral, reaching around 6 million views in a single day. “We woke up and didn’t understand anything. The power of the internet is very fast,” said Fabiana, emphasizing that the post was not intended to gain such widespread attention.
With the media attention the case received, the family ended up winning a new sofa from a furniture company. "We've already received another sofa, beautiful, wonderful. I'm very happy and grateful. I'm happy to be able to bring a smile to people's faces," the resident celebrated."
