We males are genetically programmed to protect women and kids with our lives.
I remember being on ice in Alaska (H20 at neg zero c) holding my one year old son when my feet just slipped out from under me and I landed horizontally. My only thought on the way down was to ensure my son was held to my chest safely as I hit the ground.
Luckily you don't have to think about this, it just comes naturally. For white people anyway...
