I believe all this was handled quite well. Two deaths and some badly injured, but it could have been much worse. Cops talked the suspect out, did not kill him as they could have.
Whoever the fucktard is in Wayne Kerrs post would have gone in guns blazing, frag grenades thrown and don't worry about anything except killing the suspect. Hostages might have died, but the bad guy would have been eliminated, that's all that mattered.

I was surprised to hear your big universities have their own police. Ours have some janitors (unarmed) and are known as peaceful places now. Many years ago there were protest and happenings against war and nazism, which were violent to a certain degree. Some students from these days set up the 'RAF' terror group later on.
Today nobody has time for that.
college police depts will soon have mraps and automatic weapons just like municipal forces.
