Mind you, I'm an atheist but I always thought that painting was a nice summing up of something that happened on Earth that turned inanimate matter into life...

We've learned from science that the universe is expanding and all objects within it are traveling in a precise and predictable path away from one central point, meaning that if one could view this expansion in reverse, everything would eventually collapse into one point, or specifically one event: the big bang.
What isn't known is how the big bang was set into motion. However, the scientific community almost unanimously agrees that an external force of unimaginable magnitude must have acted upon (or even created) that infinitely dense matter in such a way that it could not have been mere chance. The mathematical odds against it are literally incalculable.
Therefore, it was intentional and there exists no logical argument that can yet prove otherwise.
Whatever that force was, it must have been infinitely intelligent and powerful which seems god-like to me.
