Unfortunately for this man and the little trick-or-treater next to him, Chicago’s hoodlums didn’t hear the governor’s pitch about Halloween safety.
In an infuriating video obtained by CWBChicago, three armed men are seen pistol-whipping, robbing, and carjacking a man at gunpoint seconds after he helped the young girl out of his car for Halloween trick-or-treating in Bridgeport on Friday afternoon.
Throughout the horrifying ordeal, the little girl looked on, seemingly trying to decide if what she was seeing was part of the spooky fun of Halloween.
It was not part of the fun.
Around 3:16 p.m., the 42-year-old man parked his SUV in the 2600 block of South Emerald Avenue and helped the girl out of the back seat as she clutched her orange trick-or-treat bucket. As they walked toward a nearby gate, an armed man suddenly sprinted across the street toward them, holding a handgun out in front of him with both hands.
The victim backed up instinctively, the little trick-or-treater still beside him, gripping her bucket. The robber then struck the man in the head with the gun, knocking him into a fence. As the victim dropped his backpack and grabbed his face, a second assailant ran up and began taking his belongings.
Just a few feet away, the girl remained frozen on the sidewalk as a third robber ran to the parked SUV. While the first two thugs fought with the victim, the third jumped into the driver’s seat. Within moments, all three fled in the stolen vehicle, leaving the shaken man and the terrified girl behind.
Police said the robbers made off with the man’s black Mazda CX-5, his phone, and his wallet. A CPD spokesperson said officers recovered the man’s SUV in the 300 block of South Maplewood, but no arrests have been made.
All three attackers were described as Black men about 20 years old."
