movies Disney Reportedly Planning 'Full Reboot' of Beloved Movie Franchise (Indiana Jones)

Brace for more defilement of classic characters and the films they live in:

From Men’s Journal:

There’s been no shortage of popular franchises and memorable movies being rebooted of late, and it appears Disney is gearing up to do the same with one iconic title. While the Indiana Jones series, led by actor Harrison Ford, officially wrapped things up in 2023 with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the franchise may be nearing the time to hit the reset button.

Disney Reportedly Gearing up for a 'Full Reboot' of 'Indiana Jones'

While it's far from surprising that Disney is likely to reboot the Indiana Jones series, the report from longtime Disney insider Skyler Shuler of The DisInsider included a few interesting tidbits.

"Lucasfilm is letting the franchise rest for a bit before they do a full reboot of the franchise. I would expect the studio to announce something next year at the D23 Expo because even though the last film tanked at the box office, Indiana Jones is still an iconic IP and Disney/Lucasfilm do not want to waste that," Shuler wrote.

'Indiana Jones' Suffered Significant Drop at the Box Office in 2023 After Previous Film's Success

When the 2008 movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released, it reset the bar for the franchise at the box office. The film marked the final addition to the Indiana Jones franchise that Steven Spielberg directed.

Spielberg directed four Indiana Jones movies, dating back to 1981, and the 2008 film broke the franchise record for worldwide box office total ($786.6 million), domestic box office total ($317.1 million) and largest opening weekend (just over $100 million), as The Numbersdetailed.

However, that success didn't carry over following a 15-year gap, as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny didn't even pull in half of the worldwide box office total that the previous movie did.

At this point, it's anyone's guess what that process could look like, and while Ford's portrayal of the character drew high praise, whoever does step into that role will have big shoes to fill.

If Disney has plans for a four or five-film reboot, then obviously going somewhat younger when casting Indiana Jones would make sense. Unfortunately, fans will have to remain in wait-and-see mode until that discussion potentially ramps up.

Indiana Jones and the Grape Soda of Destiny
Harlem NYC, the height of summer of the year 1977:
Indiana Jones, a 21 year old black woman with a large afro wearing bell bottom jeans walks into a bodega. She sees the clerk is distracted by some pygmy looking mofos as the light from a flickering florescent illuminates the last bottle of grape soda in the cooler. The camera pans across the obstacle course of filth she must traverse to reach the cooler, ransacked racks of chips and broken bottles, a passed out hobo in a puddle of his own urine, rats nibbling at a spilled tube of pringles, the bodega cat watching with glowing green eyes from the top of the shelf. Then suddenly the pygmy looking mexican mofos begin robbing the store with switch blades and machetes. The iconic Indiana Jones theme begins to play as our hero traverses the obstacle course to retrieve the last bottle of grape soda from the cooler. The store's alarm activates and the roll down riot gates begin to descend over the windows and door. She makes a mad dash as the cat pounces towards her, holding the soda tight she dodges the cat, slides past the pygmys, past the sleeping hobo, away from the rats, and under the gate, her weave falls out but she reaches under the gate and grabs it at the last second. The pygmys slam into the metal trapping them inside with everyone else. Indiana is about to open her grape soda, seemingly safe at last outside, when a pimp and some of his hoes surround her on the sidewalk and the pimp takes the soda from her, opens it, and drinks it. "So, Dr. Jones," he says, "it seems you have once again gotten me exactly what I wanted, the last Sunkist purple soda in existence." "That belongs in a refrigerator!" Shouts Indiana.

..."Soda You!!!"

If Disney is making it, guaranteed Indy will be a lezbo black woman with red hair.

I'm sorry, there is no way you can replace the intro to Indy that was done in the first film. Spielberg told you everything you needed to know about on that first crack of the whip.

I agree. The maga and Nazi folk of course are gonna go crazy about a change of race or having a trans character or something but because I’m not a caveman i don’t worry about that I worry cinematically. Like how are you gonna reboot those first three films they are just classic. It would be like Disney trying to do a full reboot of Star Wars and remake the original trilogy.

I hope that’s not what they are doing here. I say if they do it they don’t try to remake the first three they just do new stories, new movies when isn’t was younger with a younger actor.
