Sometimes, in my home town, I see parents walking in the street, holding their little one(s) by the hand... but they are rare exceptions, mostly people let their very young offspring wander around, behind them, a long way ahead of them, or some yards to the left or to the right... meanwhile parents busy themselves with their phones.... when told to mind their kids and keep them safe they get angry and babble shit about not wanting to be "helicopter parents"...

I don't believe there is a specific thought behind this neglectful parenting - they simply can't be bothered, their phones are literally more important - apart from that the new normal is: "let your kid do literally everything it wants to do, children should be free to explore and learn about the world, NEVER punish them, they will be traumatized, do not discipline your kids, that's bad for their precious characters!"

At present, if you so much as tap your kid's wrist.... you'll have child protection authorities at your door next day.
