A 47-year-old man was run over following a dramatic accident that took place on February 4 in San Pedro de Los Altos, after the brakes on a Fiat 1 failed.
Juan Carlos Jiménez Guarima was crossing the street toward the La Coromoto corner when a vehicle with no brakes approached him from behind at full speed. The car crashed into a crossing SUV and then plowed into him.
The man spun in the air and landed at least 10 meters away. Avance obtained access to security camera footage from the area, which showed bystanders in shock, as the driver responsible for the accident would have run over many more people had he not collided with the SUV.
Jiménez Guarima was left lying on the ground while witnesses who reacted came to his aid and contacted the authorities. He was transported to Victorino Santaella Hospital, where he was diagnosed with multiple fractures.
Regarding the driver of the Fiat that caused the accident, witnesses stated that he sat for several minutes with his hands gripping the steering wheel in a state of shock, having lost control of the car on a steep descent presumably due to brake failure.
The victim works in the sale and distribution of donuts; he is a father of five, most of whom are out of the country.
Those in charge of his care have mobilized to request funds because, although he has already undergone surgery, he requires strict treatment and help covering other recovery expenses.
