The Third Transitional Preparatory Investigation Court for Flagrancy of Coronel Portillo has granted a request for nine months of pretrial detention against Edu Gerald Plaza Izquierdo (20), who is under investigation for the alleged commission of a property crime, specifically aggravated robbery, to the detriment of Alis María Guzmán Panduro.
The coercive measure orders Plaza Izquierdo's confinement in the Pucallpa Penitentiary Establishment, with the term calculated from the date of his arrest, January 10, until October 9, 2026.
The court considered the existence of serious and well-founded evidentiary elements presented by the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office). These included the police report, witness identification, and audiovisual records provided by the National Police, which demonstrate the suspect's participation in the events under investigation.
According to the Public Ministry, on January 10, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Alis María Guzmán Panduro, a truck driver for the CCM company, was delivering groceries with her delivery assistant on Jr. José Olaya Balandra in the Callería district. As they finished their distribution and prepared to leave, they were intercepted by two subjects on a black Honda motorcycle.
According to the prosecution's theory, one of the subjects dismounted the motorcycle wielding a revolver. He threatened the truck driver with death, forcing her to exit the vehicle and kneel while demanding money. Meanwhile, the defendant, Gerald Edu Plaza Izquierdo, entered the truck cabin to steal money. Finding none, he seized a cell phone and a backpack containing the victim's personal documents and bank cards. During the assault, the victim was pistol-whipped, causing a head wound. Additionally, an accidental shot was fired, wounding the defendant himself in the abdomen, after which both subjects fled on the motorcycle.
Subsequently, police personnel at the Amazonian Hospital of Yarinacocha received Gerald Edu Plaza Izquierdo, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. This was communicated to specialized agents. After learning of the armed robbery against the distribution company workers, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIVINCRI) went to the hospital with an eyewitness, who identified the defendant as the driver of the vehicle used in the assault. Once his medical condition was confirmed as stable, the Police proceeded to arrest Plaza Izquierdo.
