A boat like tanker would get stuck in the mud. A tanker has about 17 meters of draft. These ships can only operate in channels with depth (natural or man-made).

im not arguing with you or taking sides with anyone. but do you really trust the chinese govt on much of what they say? i mean,yea it could be possible. if it wasnt "an accident". china and russia are buddy buddy. i dont trust any of them. let alone my own govt.
again,china said it was a chain from an anchor. in MY mind,id tend to think that something like this would be made so accidents like that dont happen. considering what these cables are used for. i would tend to think they wouldn't be made like shit. almost complete tamper proof and erosion proof (up to a certain amount of time before needing some kind of attention). but then again,who knows. maybe it was made in china. so yea,a strong wave would damage it. idk...
