In Hindsight Everything Is Different

Back story - assumed to have taken place in Pensylvania:

Watch: Man Calmly Ushers Giant Black Bear Off Patio, Gets Swatted

The footage from the encounter surfaced on Barstool Philly's Instagram account on Sept. 5, and it instantly caused an uproar. In the video a group of people appears to be hanging out next to a lake, possibly at an outdoor patio. A guy in a cut-off t-shirt and basketball shorts ushers a large, ambling black bear away from the setup, steering it past hanging baskets of flowers, tiki torches, and a 65-inch flatscreen television propped up on a stack of firewood.

Once the guy and the bear reach the gate, there's a pause. The bear clearly doesn't want to leave, and makes this known by reaching up and swatting the guy, apparently named Mike, on his torso. But Mike barely budges, instead sticking a finger in the bear's face and then pointing it out of the patio like he's putting a stubborn dog in the backyard.

The bear takes a final look around before finally moseying through the gate and out into the street (straight toward two unsecured trash cans). Grinning at the camera, Mike lifts his shirt up to reveal the few long scratches from the bear's clay.

Yeah, these Guys have fucking"BALLS OF STEEL" in Pennsylvania...:dancingpenis::simmy:

American black bear eat only very small animals & not humans even though they're classified as an omnivore. That one was huge & well fed though. It's why they use that species or used to, in circus acts. Supposedly, you can train them much like you can canines but, best just leave them to be wild & free & this isn't that uncommon when encroachment due to new construction issues force them to find a new forest to live in & they migrate through the human populated areas.
It's almost black bear season here actually. Smokey better move it before he gets stuffed and mounted. 😢😭

Thank you for the explanation - the bear's docile behaviour actually made me wonder....

YW. I'm curious... What did you wonder? He could be an escapee from the circus or possibly a weed farm. I'm not always correct even if I like to think I am. That could explain why he seems less wild than you'd expect too but, actually they're so common around the Appalachian regions that 3000- 5000 are killed annually, in each state the mountains run through on the East Coast. 🥹 Those figures do not include poachers or those hunting on private property either or ones killed by vehicles but, insurance companies should turn that data over to be collected too imo, as they matter to the ecology of our regions. Maybe they do now but, it's doubtful.
Weed farmers keep them to scare people & other animals away- which I thought was an urban legend but apparently, it's actually pretty true & it's to have a legitimate reason for all the bear traps they set out as well, to "discourage" poachers & I assume, law personel. The 2018 Farm Bill here in the USA didn't say how farmers can & cannot protect their pricey crops after all. 🤔

Nope! Leonardo DiCaprio was mauled nearly to death by a real bear just to get this single shot for the movie, the bear wasn't harmed though as it was successfully tranquilized by darts. The Revenant is the only movie where a star actor was deliberately made the victim of a near-fatal bear attack. In fact the majority of the movie after this scene is just a documentary film crew who followed him around recording his struggle to survive alone in the woods.

I was wondering how on earth this could be possible, given the reputation of brown bears, plus of course quite a few back stories to less than fortunate encounters with the browns, but I did not have many clues -- so was planning to do some deeper "bear" investigations. However, I was distracted by domestic chores, and then I found your explanation, and all of it new to me.

If you're looking into differing US bear species, I found the best & most accurate info online to be from the Dept of Natural Resources & hunting magazines. I studied up on them before the last couple of hunting trips, beyond what I already knew from bio & zoo courses in college & past hunting trips I went on since I was a toddler. If you go hunting, you gotta take it seriously & that includes learning more than how to handle weapons, you gotta know the environment & what dangers you might encounter, & minimally, first aid. You gotta also know the guys at these gun / hunting clubs & lodges get mighty drunk & are armed even when seriously hungover w/a terrible temperament & sometimes hunters have "accidents", & get maimed or worse & a few have died at the club. 😔
Hunting game is the favorite past time of most American males, atleast all the ones I have been with. It's huge here. All were sport hunters. They love killing. It keeps them tuned up I guess so, even though I am opposed to sport hunting myself & only shoot innocent animals w/a camera now, I would never deny that which they find pleasure in. I'm not that big a hypocrite perhaps & it's a rite of passage for them. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wow. Some serious stuff, about the world of the hunters. You go out alive and come home unalive.
So it seems the caveman is still embedded in the present day digital man.
