Yeah, but I guess they also didn't see two fucking bright beams of light coming toward them 
When I worked on an ambulance I was at first surprised at the distance the pedestrian's belongings were found from the scene

This is a true story, 20 years back a work colleague killed himself by tying a wire clothes line cable around his neck and tied the other end to a tree then drove his convertible as fast as he could down the highway until the cable ran out and off came his head. The authorities found his car , the wire, a suicide note etc ... but not his head! they eventually found it about four hundred meters away in a ditch !
Or he saw them but knew who they were so...
