The term ‘Hair of the Dog’ comes from an old medical remedy for dog bites. The old time folk thought that rubbing dog hair into a dog bite (from the same dog) would prevent the wound getting infected.
Over the years it became the term used today for drinking the same alcohol that caused the hang-over the following day to feel better. The ancient Egyptians used this technique lol. In the movie The Shining, Jack Nicholson asks for “hair of the dog that bit me” when he’s in the hotel bar, using the full terminology.
