"Paris: Video of a scooter mowing down pedestrians in the Opéra district goes viral on Twitter

ACCIDENT• The scooter went out of control and suddenly sped into the crowd on a pedestrian crossing in Paris

Viral videos showing absurd challenges are not uncommon, but unfortunately, sometimes it's more tragic scenes that go viral . On Wednesday evening, a scooter went out of control and plowed into a crowd in the Opéra district of Paris's 9th arrondissement. Footage of the accident , filmed by a cyclist, has already been viewed nearly 230,000 times on Twitter .

The scooter plowed into the crowd

The Opéra district is known for its traffic congestion. Some pedestrians experienced this firsthand on Wednesday evening. Shortly before 5 p.m., at the intersection of Boulevard des Capucines and Avenue de l'Opéra, a scooter stopped at a pedestrian crossing in front of Place de l' Opéra . The driver got off the scooter for a moment, but the vehicle went out of control and started up again, plowing into the crowd crossing the street. The cyclist, who filmed the incident, told 20 Minutes that four people fell to the ground. A police officer arrived immediately at the scene to assess the damage.

The 26-year-old cyclist regularly takes this route to work. According to him, traffic is always heavy at this point on Avenue des Capucines. "At the time I pass by in the evening, there are always crowds of pedestrians packed onto the narrow sidewalks," he says. The extent of their injuries and whether an investigation is underway are currently unknown."
