Over population makes these events inevitable.

It’s almost impossible to walk next to an ant nest without stepping on at least one ant! πŸ˜‚
Not only that but since the contribution of a handful of people to a society so large is now so infinitesimally tiny in many regards it has no effect on society at all.

Whereas in the past the death of ten people in a town of 100 would mean the town no longer had its baker, teacher, blacksmith, and several vital farm workers, in this case the city of millions merely now loses five telemarketers, a gutter oil collector, and four people on government assistance who contribute nothing anyway.

In effect the value of human life is now so low that losing them is actually beneficial to society. Their deaths are therfore either ignored or secretly (or openly) celebrated by those who survived as it means MORE resources for them, not less.
