It looked like a baby. If it was a constrictor of some type it would made sense it would not strike but still not wigging out with it under his arm.

Wouldn’t a normal reaction be utter shock, startle and spasm , scream in horror, and jump trying to fling the snake from your person ? And who has time to get a pair of scissors ? I can NEVER find a pair of shears when I need them despite buying a variety pack just weeks before. I guess that’s why most of us would have already been bitten.
