There's been a couple of jobs over the years that kept me stringing along KNOWING that they were gonna let me go. I don't have an issue if you need to let people go for whatever reason as long as it's a valid and reasonable reason ... BUT! .. just tell the person from the get go .. don't try and squeeze an extra few hours out of them for FREE when they don't even know they are being let go. The last time that shit happened to me I had been driving deliveries for a car parts company. I had half a van full of car parts when I realized I wasn't going to get paid for the previous week because (some shenanigan with my employer going bust or some ridiculous lie they cooked up) I was not going to be reimbursed for time , fuel , inconvenience etc .. Those car parts got sold to a wrecker yard the following week where I recouped at least half what I was owed. I have no shame or guilty conscience .. it's not hard to just be a decent person in the world. Even if your business is going belly up and broke and you need to terminate workers .. you can still do it respectful of the workers who busted their ass for YOU!
