God damn, you can actually see the rip current she's caught in. I was caught in one right next to Santa Monica pier in the 80s with my best friend. We were just fucking about, in the surf crashing about thigh height. In seconds we recover to the surface and we're treading water almost past the end of the pier. Dragged like a 1000 feet.
We had to use the pilings to rest against as we made our way back to the sand. Just one piling to the next. Scariest moment of my life.

What a waste
Swim parallel TO the shoreline for 20 feet and you'll exit the rip current. the first time is scary, but after that is not very scary, but very simple. We get a little bit of that here on the east coast of Florida, not as bad as Hawaii, though.
