Japanese Temple That Held The Eternal Flame For 1,200.Years Burns Down ... Oh The Irony

^^ lolz it wasn't when the fire brigade blasted the fucker with a hose. EDIT= i bet it's gone out loads of times in 1200 years and they just relight it,no fucker would know.:lulz:
Many Japanese temples and villas have burned down or collapsed many times due to fires or earthquakes. They don't have philosophical debates about the Ship of Theseus. They wouldn't care.

Shinto beliefs are still prevalent there. As long as a location's ritual, name, location, and form are preserved, then it's the same building, period. The Ise Grand Shrine is fully and completely rebuilt every two decades and if you bring up the concept to the monks asking if it's he same shrine or not, some might even be confused. Like, yeah, obviously it's still the same shrine, it's where it's always been. People do what they've always done there, why would you think it wasn't the same shrine?
