Hagazusaa: A Heathen's Curse. Germany. 2017
Stripped down The Witch.
6/10
I tried to watch The Witch but it didn't work out. After watching this pile of crazy, ill think ill give it another go. Very little dialouge and long scenes with only one actress consistantly in the film. It definitely borrows from T.W. but strips it back to another level. And it is strange.
The film kept my interest simply because of the way the scenes were filmed. It makes you think about what is being presented, but the message was blunt.

Good movie, with many beautiful scenes and landscapes And the war scenes are just amazing.
8/10

Herod's law. Mexico. 1999
Political satire.
5/10
A party member is picked to be mayor of a small town.
Written by the bloke who did El Infierno (The Hell) and La Dictadura Perfecta (The perfect dictatorship). It is alot drier than his later films and kinda boring. Its purely a political film that demonstrates the corrupt nature of the political process and the violence used to get ones way or get rid of certain people.
No english subs in the trailer.

May the devil take you. Indonesia. 2018.
4/10
Yawn, fuck you Netflix.
A 'Netflix original' that proves once again, if it was needed, they produce fucken garbage. The film had me interested within the first 20 mins, but that's when i started to notice that there was ALOT of story being fleshed out. Some of the effects were good, but after a while the story became more bloated that corpse in the sun. By the one hour mark i had run out of popcorn and patience.
The story became very familiar and just plain dumb.

Mother. 2009 South Korea.
10/10
From the director of The Host. A mother investigates a murder that her son has been connected to.
A crime drama that really twists and turns, a stunning thriller that is unpredictable and left me wondering why the fuck do i watch these South Korean movies.
Because they are actually REALLY GOOD. The plot couldn't be predicated. The 'mother' in the film runs a small herb shop and cares for her slightly stupid son. Not big on action, just layers of story. There were lots of 'clues' through out the film, but it only came together right at the end.
