The captain from Kopenick. 1931. Germany.
8/10
Based on true story.
A elderly criminal buys a army captains uniform from a op-shop, gets a bunch of soldiers and steals the money from a local council building.
The plot sets up at the start, the old man getting out and going back to jail, as well as how the uniform ends up in the shop. From there the humour of the situation is when he marches some soldiers in and takes over.
Steady pace with likeable characters, it takes a simple idea and fleshes it out while not bogging it down.

The thieves. 2012. South Korea.
9/10
A group of crims team up with some others, linked by one man, to steal a diamond from a casino.
The film has a large cast with various elements, it kinda like Oceans 11, but instead of a simple heist and done. It adds multiple levels of deception. Characters are killed off, caught, betray each other and are working for the police. With a two hour run time, it's a steady interesting film that ends with a great action set piece.

Faust. 1924. Germany
8/10.
A bloke makes a deal with satan for a cure, and ends up with alot more.
Based on a folk tale its a film that sticks to the original story. The production is silent era black and white. This puts the emphasis on the sets, makeup, acting, and lighting. With such a strong contrast and a limited setting, it does feel like it run together after a while. But is still a great example of early cinema.

Ah man not a big fan of old films to be honest but this is one of my all time favorites.. simply brilliant.

interesting.. will check

In my skin. 2002. France. (rewatch)
8/10
A woman suffers an accident, this leads to a series of ever increasing acts of self harm.
Dramatic horror that doesn't explore why it happens, but has it as a sub level narrative. She has a boyfriend and co worker who are concerned, but her corporate job features as she battles the ever increasing need to harm herself. It does suggest she gets 'relief' from the cutting. But not is a typical depressive way of low self worth.
More of a art house style, its a solid horror that slowly escalates with the practical effects.

A girl walks home alone at night. 2014. Iran.
6/10
A vampire becomes close to a young man.
Interesting relationship drama that is slow but well filmed in black and white. The majority of it is set at night with some scenes set at a distance which elevates the shadows. Not much of a plot but interesting use of the soundtrack.
