Relay

6.5/10 This movie seems to get a lot of positive hype and I'm not sure why. Anyone who watches it even while half awake will notice a few plot holes in the movie as well as a few idiotic lines. The main part of the plot involves a guy who acts as an unidentified intermediary between corrupt corporations willing to do anything to cover up their corruption and individuals who could be whistleblowers if only they had a prayer of living long enough to see the next sunrise. Is that even a real thing??? Anyway, I found this movie to be more or less a waste of time. It's ok entertainment if your brain is not engaged, but it really doesn't set the bar too high.

Nuremberg

8/10 Pretty decent movie with Russell Crowe playing Hermann Göring during the Nuremberg trials. His actual trial lasted over 10 months and this movie gets it down to 2.5 hours. And while I am no expert, nothing in the movie struck me as obviously historically inaccurate. Indeed, I think the movie captured the sentiments of the times and the major events as they really happened. Actual concentration camp video footage bolstered the realism of the movie as well. All in all, a pretty good watch.

We shall not be moved. 2024. Mexico.
8/10
Drama about a elderly woman, whose older brother was killed in a revolution in 1968. She still seeks revenge many years later.
Centered around the family in a apartment building, her sister, her son and his wife.
Well written plot, tad slow but with a 100 minute runtime. Perfect example of relationships that sour, anger and a want for revenge and forgiveness.

Weapons 2025. Terrible movie with not a single likeable character and just like in most modern films there is a gay couple. At least VHS halloween was fun.

The tough ones. 1976 Italy.
6/10
Fast paced action crime film, sexist as it is violent, cheesy as it is entertaining. Centers on a sandy haired moustache wearing, tough guy cop. He is after a villian who is generic and rules don't seen to apply. Very standard acting, but with some well filmed car chase scenes, no real depth to any characters, just a tad over 90 minute run time.

On the silver globe. 1988. Poland.
7/10
A team of astronauts land on an uninhabited planet.
What follows over two and half hours, intercut with a voice over from the director, describing scenes unfinished, is brutal, chaotic, visually impressive, philosophical to a degree, surreal science fiction.
The costumes, large number of actors, locations and sets make for an engaging watch. There is a plot, at least for the first hour. Not a casual easy going film, but a vision from a remarkable director.

Dust bunny. 2025.
8/10
A little girl teams up with an assassin, to get rid of a monster under her bed.
Family friendly gateway horror, decent plot that echos The professional. The film itself is full of very still colourful scenes, everything is well balanced. CGI plays a big part, but it works given the humorous script. Has a small cast, with Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver starring. Weaver is well cast as the 'boss' of Mikkelsen's character.

Not Fade Away (2012) by Sopranos creator David Chase. It was alright, I love the 60s it’s one of my favorite decades in human history. So any movie that’s set then and tries to be historically accurate I like to watch it even if the plot, etc isn’t the best.

I would put my rotten tomatoes rating between the 69% from critics, which is too generous, and the 42% from audiences which is too low. Id give it a 55% , not one to watch twice.

His other film “The Many Saints of Newark” is a solid 75%, so he did improve in his next film.

Antichrist
8/10 Lars van Trier movie in which a couple retreats to a secluded cabin following the unexpected death of their child in an attempt to salvage their relationship and try to heal from their son's death. Needless to say, things do not go as planned. There are a lot of things going on in this movie--power struggles for control, endless mind-fuckery, sadomasochism, depression, and the never ending struggle for life to name just a few. If I had to describe the movie in one word, it would be "warped". Anyone who watches this will probably find themselves saying "what the fuck!" many times over.

The House That Jack Built
9/10 Another production from Lars Van Trier. This one follows the recounting of several murders by an architect turned serial killer. With an excellent script and acting (IMO), the killer tells the tales of several of his kills and how he sees them and death as essentially one of many processes necessary in the production of a type of fine art, all while struggling to design and build his own home (which is really just a metaphor here more than anything). Know that among his victims are his wife and two young children. Despite being 3 hours long, I never grew tired or bored with the movie and in fact found it fascinating.

Kill List
5.5/10 Two friends who work as contract killers are hired to kill three people. When they get to the third assignment, things start to go awry as they get mixed up with some satanic cult crap. It's not a horrid movie, but I personally felt it was a lackluster final product. All in all, a pretty uninteresting, barely average movie that doesn't have a lot going for it.

The Alchemist Cookbook
0/10 Fuck me!!! Utter shit with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. If you do try to watch it, my guess is that you will realize it's a shitty movie in a shorter time than it takes for you to read what I am writing here.

Within the Pines
2/10 Middle age fat guy walks around the woods wearing headphones connected to a boom mic and comes upon a trailer in which a woman is being held captive by another middle age fat guy. Predictable, unengaging, low budget, literally almost a silent film, and with the use of deus ex machina to further the plot, the ominous sounding bits of soundtrack aren't nearly enough to resurrect this POS.
