All the good movies and the good writers ended at like 2003 everything after that is slop or some bullshit. Video games is the successor.

Someone hasn't seen Sinners. Or Rent-A-Pal. Ever Bandersnatch'd? It's a choose your own adventure Black Mirror episode. It's a movie AND a video game.

Video games are top tier, for sure. But yeah. There's absolutely good stuff out there, dearheart.

Idk man I think I seen it all already I can't pay attention at all to the new movies coming out. I find myself revisiting old movies like seven, from dusk til dawn, goodfellas, silence of the lambs. like I don't know stuff like that like I can watch these movies over and over again and pickup something new. Maybe I'm not giving anything else a chance, it's just to much exposition for me.

That's fair. Those are some solid classics. I tend to favour really artsy stuff that is mostly exposition, but I've my own tastes. I like atmospheric films. I like horror movies that have me laughing, and not necessarily because they intended to do so, though some do.

I'm particularly fond of Ari Aster's work lately, director of Midsommar and Hereditary. He says he doesn't make horror movies, he makes comedies. People just get confused because of the subject matter. That's the good shit. But you have to be able to actually lock in and watch every second of the film for it to do its job. No distractions. Eyes on screen.

I gotta look into him. I've seen hereditary, I heard there is a lot of crazy demonic things in that movie. Like in the original exorcist you can see a satanic statue like when reagan 1st starts succumbing to the devil. It's fucced up. But yeah I haven't seen midsommar yet I might have to watch it.

Absolutely check out Midsommar. It's a hell of a ride. And you will laugh, trust me. It's fucking hilarious. And very well done. But it does not spoonfeed you. You have to be paying attention.

I absolutely get that. The crushing disappointment in bothering with something new only to be let down is frustrating for sure. But it's worth it. There are gems hidden amongst the muck. You just have to want it enough.

A perfect example of a movie with low exposition and low dialogue was taxi driver. You know you didn't really know about that character at all and the more you kept watching it the more you kept finding out about him within the context of his actions in the film and it made you almost feel like you were going through his experiences

Yeah, that's the good shit~

That's the sort of thing that really appeals to me as a voyeur. Just let me be a fly on the wall and go through your day with you.

The clan. 2015. Argentina.
5/10
A older father along with some associates, kidnap rich family members and hold them hostage in the family home until a ransom is paid.
True crime drama that does a good job of setting up the time of transition, that was the early '80s in Argentina. The main focus is a talented rugby player son, who is conflicted as he is drawn into the kidnappings. It does add a level of drama, but takes away from the fathers occupation which isn't really explained too much, but hinted at that he is part of the old regime.

It would be kind of boring, most days I'm just staring at a wall of you're into that kind of stuff I probably wouldn't want to be around you.

Revolver. 1973 Italy.
6/10
A vice warden of a prison gets involved in a complicated plot, that involves the kidnapping of his wife, him freeing a prisoner then holding him as a ransom for her.
Starring Oliver Reed as the warden in a steady paced seventies thriller. It follows the main character as tries to get his wife back, but things just keep getting murkier. Reed is solid and brings a emotional and brutality to the character. The plot itself doesn't explain certain things, which adds the mystery layer but does draw it out a bit in the third act.
