On the silver globe. 1988. Poland.

A team of astronauts land on an uninhabited planet.
What follows over two and half hours, intercut with a voice over from the director, describing scenes unfinished, is brutal, chaotic, visually impressive, philosophical to a degree, surreal science fiction.
The costumes, large number of actors, locations and sets make for an engaging watch. There is a plot, at least for the first hour. Not a casual easy going film, but a vision from a remarkable director.

Reminds me of that creature from Pan’s Labyrinth. Maybe thats where the inspiration to put that scene and creature in the movie.

If i never hear the name Jimmy and see another track suit and really bad set of blonde wigs itll be wat to soon.

Absolutely check out Midsommar. It's a hell of a ride. And you will laugh, trust me. It's fucking hilarious. And very well done. But it does not spoonfeed you. You have to be paying attention.

Have you seen Beau Is Afraid yet ?. That is so up you street I think. I absolutely LOVED it but it certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Just didnt feel it. I liked the first one , almost liked the second one, almost. Just felt like it went into left field .

Wolves, Pigs, and Men (1965) by Kinji Fukasaku​

You may be familiar with his film Battle Royale, made later in his career. But this is an early one. Such a snarly film with a chip on its shoulder. Post-War Japan is always a bleak setting, but this movie captures the cold despondence and suppression of morality that seems to always accompany the selfish will to survive when push comes to shove. Young Ken Takakura is cool as hell here too, if not more than a bit reprehensible. Recommended for fans of psychology, crime, Japan, and crisp black & white photography.

A mechanic thinks he has discovered the man who tortured him while in prison. But he has to get a group of others involved, who suffered the same fate to be sure.
Slow burn drama that builds tension at a steady pace. The film is from a wholly Iranian perspective, it doesn't have any sort of western influence. No soundtrack and scenes that are allowed to play out. The plot is simple, it relies on the trauma of those imprisoned, and there conversations of what they should do if it is him.

„Hana-bi” by Takeshi Kitano. It was a return to his cinematography after years, when i watched „Brother” as 15yo kid. I won’t give any spoilers, but i admit, that it’s been a long time since i’ve seen a very brutal movie including so much symbolism and poetry.

Been meaning to get to his films, his action/crime films look really appetizing. I'm OCD as hell, so I like going in order of their development. Was gonna start with 1989's Violent Cop.

Then i also can recommend „Battle Royale”. It’s not his movie but is strongly inspired by his cinematography and Kitano is in the cast. It’s a predecessor of Hunger Games, but way better

Thursday murder club. 2025.

A group of oldies solve a murder.
Slow but steady mystery crime comedy, directed by Chris Columbus, it has a lighthearted colorful look and style. With a cast of well known older actors they bring a grace and sensitivity to each of their roles. The plot allows each character to add as the mystery with no flashbacks. It does drag a bit because of this, but doesn't then have to reply on one sole character as in the knives out series.

Violent cop is the best movie of beat Takeshi !! I also like a lot Kikujiro summers and A scene at the sea ( as director ) poetic movie one of my fav movie ...

The first movie make me think of two others movies i liked a lot : Made in Britain with Tim Roth it's about " unrecoverable " young people and the second movie Meantime with Tim Roth too it's about the life during Tatchers'years in GB ...
