Yes, in the director's cut the train swerves to avoid hitting the dog, derails, and hundreds of circus animals fall out and get strewn onto the tracks and a opposite direction train plows into them. Giraffes, lions, zebras, monkeys, and huge lumbering elephants are slaughtered on contact. But the dog still survives.
