And with the United States being a country who appreciates the value of individuality, personal freedom, and freedom of speech, she’s allowed that. It’s not as if the US government is going to change something as culturally significant as a flag simply because one (previous) pop star recommended it. So, chill out.

As far as blacks “taking a mile” when given an inch...the problem actually lies within that metaphorical, completely rhetorical statement: Many black Americans feel as if they’ve been only getting “an inch” for quite some time, whilst white Americans are more likely to be given “a mile” to begin with, and without even having to demand it.

And don’t even try to sit there and tell me that racism is only a thing of the past while, in the same breath, you’re throwing out the n-word unprovoked. Spend some time putting yourself in the shoes of the average black American (primarily in one of the southern states), imagining all of the situations in daily life where the cards are inherently stacked against you, and then honestly tell me that it’s just as easy being a black American as it is being a white one.

As a white male in the southern US state of Georgia, I can attest to the fact of blatant and plentiful racial inequality I’ve witnessed on a daily basis for my entire 45 year life. And I can certainly sympathize with how it must feel seeing these daily public symbols of white supremacy such as Confederate flags and statues of Civil War luminaries. And not only is it disturbing that they exist at all, but there are thousands upon thousands of white Americans who actively defend these things.
