Never in my life have I seen the sun be the cause of breaking glass... I did observe a broken, glass, measuring cup breaking in the dishwasher, however...

If the door was wedged open against the stone floor there would be no room for expansion when the sun heats the floor tiles or the glass.
A glass tabletop broke in my backyard. It had to be the sun, I think heating it unevenly.
