Manhattan attack: 'Isis' suicide bomber sets off explosion at busy New York bus station

A man detonated an explosive device at New York's busiest bus terminal on Monday morning (11 December). Several people were injured in the explosion, but no fatalities were reported.
Officers rushed to the scene of Port Authority, the city's main bus terminal, at around 7:30am (12:30pm GMT) following reports of an explosion.
The suspect who detonated a pipe bomb strapped to his chest was taken into custody. He injured himself and three others in the attack. All injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.
Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, a Bangladeshi man who has been in the US for seven years. NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said Ullah acted alone in the name of Isis.
He blew up a "low-tech explosive device" in an underground passageway of the bus terminal. Police found him with burns and wounds to his body.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo told a news conference the device was "amateur level."
The city's mayor Bill de Blasio described the incident as "an attempted terrorist attack."
"Thank God the perpetrator did not achieve his ultimate goals," he said. "As New Yorkers our lives revolve around the subways. When we hear of an attack in the subways it is incredibly unsettling."
Port Authority is the largest bus terminal in the US and serves around 65 million people a year.
