I believe this is a North American visiting a European country. I had this 'shocking' experience the only time I left my country. The toilets I found in an Irish bar were literally a hole in the concrete floor. It is not like a drunk person could have issues squatting and not falling over.

Btw if your body isn't stressed out by squatting and you have something to hold onto if you can't squat flat-footed, squat toilets aren't awful.

That being said, that looks atrocious and I wouldn't be caught dead in there. I'd rather wipe my ass with my underwear in the woods.
