Come mating season the males get so hormonally sexed up they get tunnel vision. (no pun intended here).

I shot a sambar deer once, not in the moose class but 250kg, that was oblivious to my presence and allowed me to get to within 25 yards at which point I downed it with one shot which broke it's spine at the top of the shoulders. It was scratching the remnants of velvet off its antlers.

Human males have a similar problem when young...
