The two victims in this case, although this article does not mention it, were rendezvousing for sex, both being married to other spouses.

The got busted the hard way, by being murdered.

To add to the weirdness the murderer is a commercial jet pilot...

Two friends told a court of their trip to the Victorian High Country in March 2020 where they reported seeing an elderly man and woman, believed to be missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay, days before they died.
The two went missing from their campsite in Victoria’s Wonnangatta Valley, about 300km northeast of Melbourne, in March 2020.
For nearly two years, the case baffled and intrigued the nation.

Former Jetstar pilot Gregory Lynn – an avid camper – was arrested by police in Gippsland at Arbuckle Junction in November 2021 and charged with two counts of murder.
The remains of Hill and Clay were found in an alpine area north of Dargo days later.
Goran Miljkovic said on the first day of Mr Lynn’s committal hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates Court that he and a friend, Damir Javor, had been regularly camping and hunting in the area for years.

In a statement to police, he said during the “camping, fishing and hunting trip” he saw a man “in his 70s” and a woman driving in a white Land Cruiser in March 2020 at the Wonnangatta Valley. He told police they might have been a “grandpa and grandma” going out for a drive in their single cab Land Cruiser, fitted with a silver stainless steel canopy on the back.
Mr Javor was driving and tried to overtake them on March 19, 2020, according to evidence presented in court.
The men followed the Land Cruiser and saw it park “very close” to two other cars at a campsite, Mr Miljkovic told police.
Hill owned a white Land Cruiser and used it to pick up Clay from her home before they set off on their trip, according to previous police reports.

Both friends, through a Serbian interpreter, reported seeing a “blue 4WD wagon” and 4WD vehicle that was “dark blue in colour” parked near the white Landcruiser during their evidence on Monday.
Mr Lynn owned a blue Nissan patrol, according to previous police reports.
Asked by Mr Lynn’s lawyer, Dermott Dann, if he heard gunshots when he and Mr Javor were camping at the Wonnangatta Valley in March 2020, Mr Miljkovic said yes.
“I said in my statement about the gunshots … you can often hear gunshots around that area,” he said. “And that I think I heard gunshots … just before dawn. Just one gun shot.”
The gunshot he believed he heard would have been at dawn on March 20, 2020.
Mr Miljkovic told the court he gave a statement to police that said on March 19 he witnessed the couple and then heard a gunshot at dawn. He also said he thought he saw the couple during the day on March 20.
“They were coming on foot from the graveyard (towards) the river,” he said.
He did not speak with them.

Another witness, Robert Williams, said in a statement to police that he saw a “grumpy old bugger” rush past him while he was working along Dry River Flats spraying weeds.
“(He) seemed in a hurry to get to his camp,” he said.
Mr Williams also said he saw and heard a drone on March 20, which he believed was filming him and other campsites.
Previous police reports say Hill owned and operated a drone that has never been recovered.
The hearing continues.
