Part of my job here in the gigantic metropolis of Tokyo is managing several huge housing projects. These are high rise apartment buildings provided by the state or the prefectural govt for people who can't afford to buy their own homes or pay the extortionate rents in regular apartment complexes. They are generally occupied by young, lower income couples and their kids, the insane, or old people with no family. There are thousands of these complexes around the Toyko area, and I'm personally responsible for 1400 units.....quite a lot for me to get around, but merely a tiny fraction of the total number.
I have to go to places that have been vacated and evaluate what needs to be fixed, replaced and refurbished before the next tenant moves in......usually they are in really shocking condition when we get to them. People really are fucking disgusting, and the shit they leave behind is unlimited in its variety. We're contracted by the state to do this and so we have free access to all the apartments in our jurisdiction
Many people live alone in these places and sometimes they die unnoticed and lay there decomposing until someone finds their rotting corpse. When they are found the coroners come, scoop up the remains and basically leave everything else as is......that's when we come in.
Today was such a day. I just spent all afternoon with my coworker going through the belongs of some lady who'd died in her apartment. She's was lying halfway between her kitchen and lounge where she collapsed and died. Her body had decomposed to quite an extent before she was found and taken away. The place where her body lay is still easily visible due to the stains and the large amount of skin still stuck to the floor where she'd been peeled off by the coroners......I was surprised they left so much of her behind for us to clean up. I'll post pics later when I get the chance next week. Today I felt like a burglar, going through all her drawers and sifting through her private stuff. The place was quite dark and gloomy as the electricity had been cut off by the city and it was late afternoon when we went into her sixth floor apartment. I was also surprised that there was no smell. No stink despite the fluid stains and the skin still there.
Today was just a quick once over check, before me and this other guy go back in on Monday and start sorting all her stuff out for disposal. Today we went through her stuff to see if she had any money....we're supposed to report any cash we find to the city and hand it in.......but I'm thinking fuck them. If I find any serious cash, I'm sure this dead lady would have wanted me to have it rather than some lying, piece of shit politician.
It was quite eerie at times. When we went into her dark bedroom, her music box spontaneously started playing....I was like WTFFFFFF....and then my cell phone started ringing.....I answered it but all I got was static, like something out of The Ring!! I'm not lying it was fuckin bizarre. My friend was like, "Okay let's get the fuck out of here!" LOL
It was getting dark and the sun was going down, but I was quite enjoying the weirdness of it all.....
