Twin brothers from New York City were arrested on Thursday for the murder of an associate with ties to an infamous crime family.
Louie and Vincent Iacono, 36, were charged with homicide after the body of Carmine Carini Jr., 35, surfaced in the waters off Brooklyn earlier this week, according to the New York Daily News.
Authorities say that the Iacono brothers were arrested in Indiana after leading local law enforcement on a high-speed chase on Interstate 70 in Henry County late Wednesday.
Cops initially stopped the brothers' Chevrolet Avalanche for tailgating and a license plate violation, the Daily News reported.
After the responding officer asked Louie Iacono for identification, the native New Yorker reportedly peeled away, leading Indiana police on a 12 mile chase that ended at a local Walmart.
A subsequent search of their vehicle turned up prescription pills and heroin. They were charged and plead guilty to criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and drug possession.
Carini, the son of Gambino crime family associate Carmine Carini, was discovered wrapped in a tarp with a cinder block tied around his ankles.
Authorities said he was found floating in the Mill Basin Inlet off E. 58th St. and Avenue U on Sept. 2, just a few miles away from where he shared a home with the two alleged killers, according to the Daily News.
Investigators believe that Louie Iacono beat Carini to death after repeatedly striking him in the head with a hammer.
Louie then recruited his brother to come to the E. 64th St. apartment where the killing occurred and help dispose of the body.
Police fingered the Iacono brothers for the August 30 killing following numerous interviews with Carini's friends and family.
The brothers were already being held at the Henry County jail when they were charged with murder.
Louie Iacono is being held without bail and is expected to be extradited back to New York in the coming days.
'(Vincent Iacono) is charged for his role in the wrapping of the body,' Assistant District Attorney Timothy Gough said Thursday, adding that he is being held on $250,000 bail.
Motive for the alleged killing remains unclear, according to the Daily News.
