I was in attendance at one of his shows back in the 90s. I remember the first thing he did was to rest a wooden chair upside down on the stage and then to jump spreadeagle onto the four legs, then beat his face bloody with the microphone. All of that shock stuff was entertaining but I also found that I really enjoyed the songs. Not only were the lyrics nihilistic but the band could actually rock. Good stuff.
