Look up what happened to the antebellum period of the US. Many US Union vets were just tossed out into the cold. All CSA vets were denied benefits. The Veteran Association was started because of the ill treatment of our (US) vets.

This happened to the WWI vets.

Is that just not typical for our Governments . If you were an immigrant you would get more - pension , housing , health care , cheap travel/phara and legal . But a war vet , a citizen of the country ........ very little . Not even help to find employment ... and in some cases these people have to put up with being called "murderers " .
