Back story - seems entirely staged, clip was intended as an educational demonstration - Thailand

" A cobra entered the pants of an official. What happened? It's a lesson for those teaching students. No one expected this to happen. Listen to the answer. If you encounter a snake charging at you, what should you do?
Following the sensational case of a cobra entering a man's pants, which previously made headlines, many people may have wondered how a cobra could get inside and what to do if such an incident occurs.

On August 28, 2024, the Nick Wildlife page of Mr. Nick Nirut Chomngam, a snake expert and head of the Herpetology Group, posted a video clip to remind people of the incident. Nong Wave, a member of the Bueng Kan Province Snake Protection Team who removed the snake from his pants, explained that the incident occurred during a teaching session when he was teaching students at a school.
In the beginning, I will explain about different types of snakes and their venom. At the end, I will release the snakes for the students to see how to classify cobras and each type of snake. At that time, I brought out one spitting cobra and had the staff take care of the snake so that I can explain.
But at that time, the snake lunged at his foot, aiming to escape, not to bite. What they usually do is choose to stay still. Normally, snakes ignore him and slither past his foot. But this time, the snake slithered up to his pants leg. He thought the snake might have felt that this area was safe, so it continued to slither up. When the snake slithered up above his knee, he chose to pull down his pants to prevent the snake from slithering up any further.

Nick Niruth further explained that in that situation, if the boy was startled and tried to pull, there was a chance that his friend would be bitten by the snake. The snake sensed that it was being attacked, and he could feel that the point of entry was human flesh. When Wave saw that, he decided to let the snake enter first, then took off his friend's pants and slowly looked for where the snake's head was. Then, using effort and calmness, he slowly pulled the snake's head out, saving his friend who had been trapped in his pants.
These things depend on your calmness and your effort not to startle the snake. However, many people may have questions about what to do if we stay still and a snake slithers towards us. Actually, we have previously tried to educate people that if we stay still, the snake will feel that it is not threatened and will not harm us. But in reality, there are still details.

Standing still should be practiced when encountering a snake at close range. Snakes can strike at any time if they move. This is because snakes will watch our movements. When we move, it will be a stimulus that makes the snake think that we are going to attack them. Therefore, when encountering a snake at close range, the first thing to do is to remain still. And when the snake is still, slowly retreat vertically. This method will make the snake not feel threatened.

If encountering a snake within 2-3 meters, there is no need to remain still. If possible, slowly retreat. Because the snake's instinct is not to try to slither toward us. Instead, it will slither away because it is afraid of us. It is best to walk away and call an expert to come and catch it.

However, if we remain still and the snake slithers toward us, what we should do is try to avoid it. The snake should not get close to us. This is because the behavior of each type of snake is different. Some may slither away casually, while others may come and nudge our legs with their noses and bite. We cannot predict a snake's behavior or mood or thinking at that time. Therefore, whenever a snake slithers toward us, what we should do is to retreat. For example, if we see that it is about to reach our legs, we should move in the safest direction."
