Maybe deep down I am like this as well but just can't bring myself to accept it. Perhaps it is an innately human pathology to want/need to see others die and/or suffer so it makes oneself feel better about themselves not being in the same situation while concurrently feeling a bit superior as a consequence.

That's a touch egotistical. I've never seen, or wanted to see, someone hurt to feel better about myself. I'm grateful every day to have been born human, white and American. To be able to just communicate like this at all is something like 1 in 5 people get to do for recreation in the world. Appreciate it.
