A 39-year-old man attacked his stepson with a machete Friday in the San Antonio-area city of Kirby, police said.
Officers responded shortly after midnight to the 5200 block of Binz Engleman Road after receiving a 911 call about a man with a machete.
The 22-year-old victim was standing in the driveway, bleeding from cuts to the neck, face and hands. He told police the attacker, his stepfather, was inside the house.
Officers found the stepfather, whose name has not been released, in the garage armed with a machete and bleeding from a head wound.
During the fight, the stepson used a metal stepladder to defend himself and hit his stepfather on the head, police said.
The stepfather was arrested and taken to University Hospital to be treated until he could be transferred to the Bexar County jail.
The victim was taken to another hospital. Both men had injuries not thought to be life-threatening, police said.
Kirby is about 9 miles northeast of San Antonio.
