Some people in my block might have been wondering (if anyone had spotted me at all) what the hell I was doing at 4 am in the morning in the parking lot in my bath robe, sandals on my feet at minus 4 Celsius - but I was checking if I had indeed locked my car doors, which, as it appeared I hadn't, I mean, you know, life, things, distractions, plans altered etc. etc.
The blame is on the puncher. Not on the parent.

Lol, I said the same thing when I read this happened at 3 AM... tHe ReAl WiTcHiNg HoUr some say 🧙♀️...moo hoo hoo ha ha ha (if you believe in such things) but, the article stated they had attended an event that ran that late... I think a concert but, it didn't identify the performance specifically.
A lot of parents still would never take their kid to performances that run that late though.

I thought it was completely staged possibly & by her or her own camp based on her (lack) of worry. Also, since it's an unknown substance, had this all been legit, the protocol is to treat it as a potential biological agent so... how come none of that happened? This reminds me of Chicago & that actor who paid people to attack him, Jessie something or other.

In general I would say: stating that this or that beat up innocent citizen who happened to walk home at a late hour "should" not have ventured outside, is more or less saying that HE/SHE is indeed part of the harmful action, because by being there they offered the culprit an opportunity to do his harmful thing. So turning things around. The streets are THEIRS too, they have a right to be there and do their harmless thing, like walking home in the middle of the night or checking their car doors, whatever.
Things would be different if it concerned a notorious neighbourhood where every third pedestrian was a thug, or druggie, or sniper, then yes, things are different. The back story makes no mention of such an overall stringent need to avoid going outdoors after dark due to the very high crime level in the neighbourhood.
