The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. at the intersection of General Acha Avenue and San Mauro Castelverde Street in the Parque Calchaquí neighborhood. According to security camera footage, the officer was leaving his home to get into his Peugeot 207 when he was approached by a man and a woman on a Honda Wave motorcycle. The man, with a gun in his hand, remained on the motorcycle, while the woman, on foot, walked around the car, positioned herself by the driver's side door, and drew a weapon.
The video then shows the woman opening the victim's car door, and a struggle ensues, during which the officer manages to draw his service weapon, a 9mm Bersa pistol, and fire several shots. The assailants also returned fire.
The thief fell mortally wounded at the scene, while her accomplice managed to escape on foot, although he was found dead a few blocks away after a lockdown operation in the area.
At the scene, SAME personnel confirmed the deaths, while officers from the ninth police station of Quilmes proceeded to seize the assailants' motorcycle and the uniformed officer's service weapon.
The case was assigned to prosecutor Javier Barrera, of the Functional Instruction Unit 2 of the Judicial Department of Quilmes, who did not take action against the member of the Buenos Aires force, considering that he acted in legitimate self-defense.
