At that moment, two thieves entered. One came around the side of a parked truck, surprising the employees working on the pallets. The accomplice, attempting to ambush them from behind, advanced along the other side of the truck, where he encountered the guard and aimed a gun at him.
The guard, a former officer of the Buenos Aires Provincial Police (Policía Bonaerense), confronted the armed delinquent, disarmed him, and engaged in a physical struggle. Shots were fired during the scuffle; that particular thief managed to run away, fleeing with a third suspect who was waiting for him.
His accomplice was not as lucky: the 43-year-old was wounded at the scene and restrained by the guard until the City Police and SAME (Emergency Medical Services) arrived.
The 43-year-old delinquent died at the Grierson Hospital on January 8. Meanwhile, it was later confirmed that the accomplice who had escaped was also wounded and had checked into the same medical center following the incident.
The 23-year-old survivor remains hospitalized and under arrest at Grierson Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. He is charged in the case currently being investigated by National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 5, presided over by Bernarda Yamile.
At the scene, officers from the City Police Station 9B seized a 9mm pistol with filed-off serial numbers and parts of a .45 caliber weapon belonging to the thieves.
Officers also seized the pistol belonging to the security personnel. The matter is now in the hands of the courts, which initially detained the guard but later released him, ruling that his actions constituted legitimate self-defense.
