True story my father, a German Jew from Frankfurt was literally saved by the fact that his circumcision was performed by a doctor and not a mohel.
The Nazis could tell the difference between a rabbinical circumcision and one done by a doctor. My father spoke fluent French and was mistaken as a French soldier so although he was captured he was put in regular prison instead of a camp all based on the difference in the way he was cut. It happened to several people's families I have met over the years.
