Vermeulen Set To Miss Opening Round

Newsflash, 21 February 2011
Kawasaki Racing Team rider Chris Vermeulen has been withdrawn from the first round of the World Superbike Championship this coming weekend at Phillip Island in Australia.

Following an operation to rebuild his knee last July Chris has made excellent progress and is now in the final phase of rehabilitation after such complex surgery. His doctors are very pleased with the progress that has made to date but an evaluation prior to the current official IMS test sessions at Phillip Island has confirmed that Chris still has to achieve the final few degrees of bend in his knee joint to regain 100% of his race fitness.

Riding his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R at race pace now would aggravate the knee and almost certainly delay his full recovery. Chris and the team have agreed that his long term recovery is the most important thing for all concerned, meaning that Chris will miss both the official IMS Phillip Island tests, which are underway in Australia right now, and the first round of the championship on Sunday 27th.

Vermeulen will concentrate on increasing the intensity of his training over the next few weeks, with the target of returning to action at the re-introduced Donington Park round at the end of March.

Chris Vermeulen: “We decided as a team that the best thing was not race or test here at Phillip Island. It is unfortunate because it is my home round and I have gone through such a long recovery already. It would have been nice to start off the season fit and strong but we did not want to risk any further damage to my knee. Just as importantly, I am not fit enough to compete at the top level yet so it is better to not ride at the moment. My knee is improving and the recovery is going to plan, so hopefully by Donington I will be ready to race again. I have nearly five weeks from now to get ready for that round. ”

Akira Yanagawa will replace Vermeulen for the Phillip Island tests and the team will concentrate their full efforts for race weekend on Chris’s fellow regular KRT riders, Tom Sykes and Joan Lascorz.

A first look at the 2011 Yamaha Factory Racing livery - FREE VIDEO
Yamaha Factory Racing officially presented the 2011 YZR-M1 MotoGP prototype that reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and team-mate Ben Spies will ride this season, in a special event held in Malaysia on Monday.
The unveiling of the 2011 livery took place in front of gathered media at the Sepang Circuit, as both Lorenzo and Spies posed alongside their respective bikes which will take to the track tomorrow (Tuesday) for the start of the three-day official Test.
In the attached free videos you can take a detailed look at each rider’s bike as well as the M1’s new livery, which features strongly Yamaha’s corporate blue colours in the year the Japanese factory celebrates its 50th anniversary of being involved in GP racing. A special 50th Anniversary logo has also been created for 2011, and is displayed on the fuel tank of the new M1.
As a further part of the celebrations to mark this year’s milestone for Yamaha a dedicated new website has been created, and there will also be events at the Motegi and Assen rounds of the 2011 World Championship.
Attending a press conference at the Monday launch alongside Lorenzo and Spies were Yamaha Motor Racing MD Lin Jarvis, new Team Director Massimo Meregalli, and Team Manager Wilco Zeelenberg. They were also joined by Shigeto Kitagawa, Masahiko Nakajima and Kouichi Tsuji.
Lorenzo commented: “I'm very happy to be here again preparing to start another season riding with Yamaha. Winning the World Championship last season was an incredible feeling, but now we start again. I have a great crew and with the hard work of the Japanese engineers over the winter I feel confident we can fight for more success this year.”
Spies, last season’s Rookie of the Year, stated: “We worked really hard last year to earn the seat with the Yamaha Factory team so it's a great feeling to be here alongside Jorge. It's obviously a special year for Yamaha with the 50th Anniversary of GP racing celebrations so I'm really thrilled to be part of it. The bike's feeling really good, we've got a few days more of testing now to really shake it down and fine tune the set up and we'll be ready to go. I'm loving the corporate blue colour scheme, I'm a big fan of the design.”
Jarvis added: “I'm proud to be here for the 2011 Yamaha Factory Racing launch and the start of a new era for the team. This is an important year for us being our 50th anniversary of involvement in Grand Prix racing and we start the season not only with the reigning MotoGP World Champion but also welcoming Ben Spies, last year's Rookie of the Year to the Factory Team. It's fitting that we will line up for the start of this special year in our corporate colours.”

my brother who shall always be known as Scrubber, sends me some GOLD !!

In 1923, Who Was:
1. President of the largest steel company?
2.. President of the largest gas company?
3. President of the New York stock Exchange?
4. Greatest wheat speculator?
5. President of the Bank of International Settlement?
6. Great Bear of Wall Street?

These men were considered some of the worlds most successful of their days..
Now, 88 years later, the history book asks us, if we know what ultimately became of them..

The Answers:

1. The president of the largest steel company.
Charles Schwab,
died a pauper.

2. The president of the largest gas company,
Edward Hopson,
went insane.
3. The president of the NYSE,
Richard Whitney,
was released from prison
to die at home.
4. The greatest wheat speculator,
Arthur Cooger,
died abroad, penniless.
5. The president of
the Bank of International Settlement,
shot himself.
6 The Great Bear of Wall Street,
Cosabee Livermore,
also committed suicide

However,
In that same year, 1923,
the winner of the worlds most important road race,
the Isle of Man T.T.,
was
Stanley Woods.
What became of him?

He won 10 T.T. races between 1923 and 1939,
He lived on the Isle of Man and rode motorcycles all his life. He lapped the island circuit at 82 mph in 1957 (The Golden Jubilee) aged 54
He was a wealthy man when he died aged 90.
The Moral:

Fuck work; Ride motorbikes.

Stoner leads day one at Sepang

Tuesday, 22 February 2011
The Repsol Honda rider led his team-mate Dani Pedrosa and World Champion Jorge Lorenzo on the timesheet at the close of the first of three days at the second official MotoGP Test of 2011.

Sepang Test 2011 - Day 1
The second official 2011 pre-season MotoGP Test rounded off its opening day at Sepang with Casey Stoner top of the timesheet, as the Australian set the only lap under 2’01” on Tuesday. With an effort of 2’00.987 inside the final hour, Stoner was followed by team-mate Dani Pedrosa (+0.373s) for a Repsol Honda one-two at the top.
In typically sweltering conditions and with a general lack of grip being reported by the riders the duo of RC212Vs were followed on the timesheet by a brace of Yamaha M1s. First up was the factory machine of World Champion Jorge Lorenzo, who at 0.481s off Stoner had spent the day trying a modified chassis in a bid to deal with a chatter problem encountered last time out at this track. Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Colin Edwards was just over two-tenths further back in fourth.
Third Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso rounded out the day fifth fastest with a time of 2’01.747, with Yamaha Factory Racing’s Ben Spies close behind (+0.061s on the Italian) as the American concentrated on his M1 setting. Two more RC212Vs made it five inside the top eight as San Carlo Honda Gresini pair Hiroshi Aoyama and Marco Simoncelli finished within six-hundredths of one another. The Japanese rider was looking to define his suspension and rear grip and was the final rider within a second of Stoner, whilst Simoncelli worked towards better grip and braking performance having set the best time at the previous Test.
The highest placing Ducati on day one was the factory GP11 of Valentino Rossi, notably without the ‘wings’ that had featured on the fairing of the Desmosedici at its official presentation in January. Appearing to enjoy an improved comfort in his shoulder in comparison to three weeks ago the Italian worked on his set-up and on fixing his anti-wheelie setting, posting a best lap of 2’01.999 which was 1.012s off Stoner.
Álvaro Bautista, the Rizla Suzuki rider, completed the top ten (+1.237s on Stoner) as he set about adjusting the electronics on his GSV-R (he was accompanied on track by Suzuki Test rider Nobu Aoki).
Mapfre Aspar rider Héctor Barberá and Ducati Team’s Nicky Hayden both experienced crashes during the earlier half of the day and escaped uninjured, finally placing their respective Desmosedicis 11th and 12th, whilst Toni Elías enjoyed a step forward with his LCR Honda in 13th.
Randy de Puniet avoided injury when he crashed, whilst British rookie Cal Crutchlow also fell at the end of the day. The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider was still suffering from the lingering effects of a bout of food poisoning he picked up en route to Malaysia.
The Ducatis of Loris Capirossi (Pramac Racing) and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing) completed the timesheet, the rookie experiencing a non-consequential fall around midday.
You can see the full timings from day one, and keep track of them throughout the Test, by clicking here.

Lorenzo and Spies make positive inroads on first day

Tuesday, 22 February 2011
The Factory Yamaha Racing pair concluded the opening day of the Sepang Test extremely pleased with their early accomplishments.

Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies completed day one at the Sepang Test in positive moods, having worked through plenty on Tuesday and with more to look forward to across the remaining two days.
Lorenzo made some significant set-up changes during the lunch period to uncover an effective setting, one which allowed him to lap consistently fast throughout the afternoon on his Factory Yamaha Racing M1 and place third fastest by the end of the day.
“Today was a good day for me, we worked on the traction to improve it from the previous Test which helped us a lot in the set-up, I'm now very satisfied with it,” said Lorenzo, whose best lap of 2’01.468 was just under half a second off leader Casey Stoner.
“We have our chassis for 2011 now and we are working on it as well as our engine spec. With the improvements we've made we can now brake a little later and enter the corners a little more quickly as well so I was able to do some good fast consistent lap times this afternoon when it was still very hot on the track."
Team-mate Ben Spies focused on suspension settings after spending the morning easing himself back into the M1 seat, and the Texan was also pleased with his feeling with the bike at the end of the day.
“Today we came to this Test with the engine configurations we're going to race with so both bikes have that. We just warmed up in the morning and spent the afternoon on one set of tyres,” said Spies, who was sixth fastest with a lap of 2’01.808. “We set our fastest lap of the day when it was very hot and mid race distance on a hard tyre. We're saving some tyres for the end of the Test when the track's good.”
He continued: “We worked on some race set-up and I also worked on some different riding styles. We'll start again tomorrow with plenty more to do. We tried a couple of shocks and found a few tenths and were still consistently fast on used tyres which was promising. It's definitely a good day and I'm happy with it."

Rossi off to a “happy” start in Malaysia

Tuesday, 22 February 2011
The Ducati Team rider was pleased with how day one at the Sepang Test went, and team-mate Nicky Hayden was also satisfied with his opening day’s work.

Ducati Team riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden took full advantage of an entire day without rain at Sepang on Tuesday, although the temperatures were higher than they had been during the three-day test at the beginning of this month.
Rossi continued his important work on the GP11’s set-up, completing 53 laps and choosing some base settings on which his crew plans to concentrate in the future. Hayden worked on his set-up in an effort to reduce chatter, and despite a slow fall just before the lunch break he was satisfied in the end with the progress he had made.
Valentino Rossi - 9th, 2’01.999:
“We can be satisfied with today as a first day, because we’re a second from the top, like we were at the end of the first Test but without trying a late ‘time attack’ with the soft tyre like the others did. For the most part today, I was between fifth and sixth place, which is the goal we had set. I’m still losing about three-tenths due to the shoulder, because I’m still stronger in the left turns, whereas I’m normally the opposite; the rest we’ll have to find by working on the bike. I’m also happy because we spent all our time on the hard tyres, which we struggled with before today. In the end, we chose one of the two set-ups that we had settled upon at the last Test, and that will now be our base to work from, and the one on which we’ll concentrate our efforts in the next couple of days.”
Nicky Hayden - 12th, 2’02.680:
“It’s good to be back at Sepang, working on and developing the GP11. We spent the morning checking a few things and confirming what we had learned the last time we were here. Everything pretty much went according to schedule, except I had a little crash in Turn 1 toward the end of the morning session. It was really hot, and I lost the front and tipped over, but I was going slow and didn’t do any damage to myself or the bike. Today we experienced less chatter than we had last time, so that’s quite good. We need to keep reducing that over the next two days and also find some more traction, so we’ve got plenty to keep us busy.”

Crutchlow takes positives from tough first day

Tuesday, 22 February 2011
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider was battling the remnants of the effects of food poisoning on Tuesday, as he tackled the opening day of the Sepang Test.

Crutchlow takes positives from Sepang day one
Cal Crutchlow’s first day at the official MotoGP Test at Sepang was a particularly tough one for the British rookie, who was still recovering from the aftermath of a bout of food poisoning in the sweltering Malaysian heat.
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider continued his adaptation to the YZR-M1 as he prepares for his debut season in MotoGP, and a slow speed crash towards the end of the session persuaded him to call an end to his day having completed 36 laps.
“It was a stupid crash in the first-gear hairpin!” said Crutchlow in the attached interview. “It has been difficult here today.”
Despite his fall and weakened physical condition Crutchlow still managed to get within 0.219s of his best time of the entire Test at the same circuit three weeks ago.
“Coming out here for the second time we’ve gone at a good speed and just as fast as the last Test, and consistently at the same speed, which is good,” said Crutchlow, who posted a 2’02.936 on Tuesday. “We’re just trying to work on a few things because changing a lot of things at once for me is really the main focus. I have to change the braking, the clutch control, the corner speed… everything from a normal production bike to a GP bike. So I’m trying to get everything to link in.”
Commenting on where he thinks the key to taking the next step may lie, Crutchlow continued: “I think we know the area, it may be my positioning on the bike and that may have been the reason why we had the crash. I keep complaining about the same thing over and over again. But I’m not too worried about that, I think we’ll be able to show some speed over the next couple of days and continue the Test.”
Talking about the physical issue that had dogged him in the intense Malaysian heat, Crutchlow added: “We decided to stop today because I was still feeling a bit dodgy with the stomach from the poisoning. I ate some bad food on the plane and for one day I was just completely sick, and now I’m feeling a bit drained. I’ve had to have a drip for some rehydration, especially with the heat being 45ºC, and that’s not so good after being sick for a day!”
