Jacobsen snatches debut WSS win at Sepang

Patrick Jacobsen has become the first American to win a World Supersport race after victory in Sunday's Sepang round.

Starting from pole, Jacobsen faced mid-race rain drops and constant pressure from title contender Jules Cluzel, but looked to have kept his CORE Honda just out of the Frenchman's reach...

However Jacobsen bobbled under braking and overshot the very final turn, allowing Cluzel to slot his MV Agusta inside at the apex. Jacobsen kept his cool, squared off the corner and blasted back ahead on the run to the line to win by 0.091s!

It was the CORE team's second win of the season after former rider Ratthapark Wilairot's home victory in Thailand. Jacobsen took over the seat three rounds ago at Portimao, delivering 3-2-1 race finishes.

Title leader Kenan Sofuoglu threatened to make it a three-way victory fight, but couldn't keep pace and narrowly lost out on the final podium place to Cluzel's team-mate Lorenzo Zanetti.

Sofuoglu is now 13 points ahead of Cluzel in the championship standings, with Jacobsen 28 adrift with three rounds and 75 points up for grabs.

My mate ( pommy git ) is having trouble with the EVO bike this year he will loose this year to is team mate but at least a KWAKASKI is gonna win another.

WSBK Sepang: Sykes ‘tyres’ out on frustrating race day

WSBK Sepang: Sykes ‘tyres’ out on frustrating race day

Tom Sykes heads into the 2015 World Superbike Championship summer break with little to celebrate after a dismal race day coloured by tyre woes and an accident.

The title chaser had started the weekend well with an impressive run to his fourth pole position of the season, which he proceeded to convert into a plus-three second lead in the opening race.

However, he would go on to be struck by severe tyre woes that would see him plummet down the order in the closing stages, lapping some ten seconds slower than he was, to finish a distant fifth.

Worse was to follow in race two when he was forced off track by an out-of-shape Max Biaggi before another spill whilst trying to make up ground hampered him further. He recovered to 14th, but will enter the summer hiatus having ceded second in the standings.

“The tyre dropped a lot in race one and we never expected that.. We were unlucky in race two as someone got on the inside of Max and he was pushed wide. He had nowhere to go and he picked it up. I was on the outside, so bad luck really. I was catching the group in front and felt good after making a change to the bike after race one.

“It was better but not perfect. I struggled with a bent brake lever after the contact and then when I fell later on I bent the gearlever up about 15mm and broke the footpeg off, so I only had a little stub. We were unlucky today, which is a shame because we had great pace on the bike.”

i need a more relaxed ride. this is the first time in 30 years i have been bike-less. sad.

I get ya. I got a mate I have known since the early 80's and he was on a Suz Kat, then on VFR's and CBRs 900 and 1000's. A few weeks ago he shows up on a brand spanking new
RlZgMcs.jpg

theres like 2 in the state. This is the bud who put his son on a VFR400 18 mnths ago and took the lad to the Island for his first long ride ! And then he shows up on that ^

NO ONE gave him any grief or shit ( he's a mate/family ) and a few hours later he just said "I've liked them for a while, I liked this one the best and fuck it I aint had a new bike for years "

and that was that for my bud no more head down arse up but, all his choice and he's always going to our bud.

IF HE HAD OF BROUGHT A HARLEY . . . .. . . . DIFFERENT END TO THE STORY.

Either way sincisor lots of bikes out there test ride till you find one you like and tell us what you pick.

Ulster GP: Guy Martin 'already talking about work on Monday'

Ulster GP: Guy Martin 'already talking about work on Monday'

Guy Martin is 'already talking about work on Monday' in the wake of his spill at the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix.

The 33-year-old came off while leading the Dundrod 150 Superbike race at Ireland's corner from Bruce Anstey on the final lap.

Martin's Tyco BMW team initially said he had not sustained any broken bones, however his injuries have turned out worse than feared, with Martin suffering fractured vertebrae, broken ribs and a broken sternum.

In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, team manager Philip Neill said: “Most importantly our thoughts are with Guy at this point in time, and although it is a real shame he will not be racing on Saturday – thankfully he will recover from his injuries and be up on his feet in a few days.

“As a matter of fact he is already talking about work on Monday!”

“Guy was feeling really comfortable on the BMW Motorrad machinery this week, and his double pole position and a best lap of 133.176mph during last night's Dundrod 150 race, confirmed to us that he had a great chance of adding to his impressive tally around Dundrod,” he added.

“Guy was well aware that Bruce Anstey wasn't that far behind and was eager to get a good run out of Ireland's Corner to set him up for his favourite part of the track.

“Unfortunately he got caught out by the high-side, which has ended his Ulster Grand Prix for 2015, but full credit must go to the organisers for the improved safety measures at the circuit.”

Looking ahead to Saturday's race at Dundrod, Neill said the Ulster team still has a job to do with sole representative William Dunlop.

“We still have a job to do tomorrow with William Dunlop, who has front row and second row starts in the Superstock and Superbike races to look forward to,” he said.

“He has been improving his pace throughout the week on the S1000RR, so we are looking for a positive finish to our international road racing season with Tyco Security Products and BMW Motorrad.”

MotoGP Brno: Pedrosa in pain after fork oil fall

Dani Pedrosa has been left with 'quite intense pain' in his left foot after a big accident in Free Practice 2 for the Czech Republic MotoGP.

The Spaniard was launched from his Repsol Honda due to fluid leaking from the front fork, causing the big highside at Turn 13 on only his second lap of the afternoon.

“It was a big highside. I couldn't really feel that I had a problem on the bike and when I flicked from left to right - I didn't really have time to really flick, but I was already in the air,” Pedrosa explained.

“So I make a huge highside and I think when I flipped over and impacted the floor, that was when I had this impact on my foot.

“It is unfortunately the foot I broke in Australia a long time ago [2003]. It's where I have all the screws in and I have quite intensive pain.

“I did an x-ray and it looks like everything is in place [no fracture], but the pain is quite high. The problem is that this is the foot I need to work on the [gear] shift lever and now I have problems to move it.

“I will see in the next hours how I am recovering and how I am tomorrow morning - if the pain is less and I have less swelling and I can work better on the bike.”

Pedrosa, who won last year's race, had been a close third fastest in the morning session and only lost one place on the combined lap times despite his absence in the afternoon.

“It is disappointing, here or somewhere else, because to have this kind of issue, to have this kind of crash because of shit like this is not good,” Pedrosa added.

World championship Valentino Rossi was also brought down by the oil from Pedrosa's bike. The Italian was unharmed and able to return to the track on his spare machine.

Pedrosa's team-mate Marc Marquez, who led the afternoon session, fell twice on Friday as scorching temperatures caught out a number of riders.

After missing three races earlier this season due to arm pump surgery, Pedrosa has battled for the podium at three of the last four rounds, including a second place in Germany.

should be a very interesting and fast race. Really looking forward to this one.

1992 BMW R1 Desmo: the unborn Bavarian Superbike!

In the late '80, BMW Motorrad started to think about challenge in the recently founded World Superbike Championship.
In order to compete with Honda and Ducati for the crown of the best production-derived racing racing motorcycle, the german manufacturer chose to follow some of its traditional technical guidelines, the boxer engine and the cardan final drive, but they also introduced some essential innovations.
The engine, a liquid cooled twin fueled by a Bosch injection, had a full displacement of 996 cc, in good standing with the technical rules of the WSBK Championships for twins at the time, but the greater surprise is in the DOHC valvetrain: the four valves per each cylinder were controlled by a chain-driven desmodromic system, as in the other twin-engine which was racing in Superbikes, the Ducati 851/888. The two high compression Mahle pistons (Bore-stroke: 98x66 mm) could run at the impressive speed of 11000 rpm, allowing this engine to deliver 140 hp which were transfered to the rear wheel by a 6 speed gearbox and a cardan joint drivetrain, a common solution in the BMW tradition.
The aluminium frame was made by the dutch Bakker Framebouw.
Some technical problems emerged during the testing compounded by the great costs of the project, convinced BMW to give up and stop developing this fascinating Superbike, made in only four prototypes. Only one of them is ridable.
